Product Description

Vermentino is a white grape variety grown in various regions around the Mediterranean Sea: northwestern Italy, southern France and the neighbouring islands of Sardinia and Corsica. The Vermentino "Sarticola" that Edmond picked for you this month, tells us about the Colli di Luni territory, an extraordinary piece of land halfway between the Tyrrhenian sea on one side and the Apuan Alps on the other. Green hills covered with olive groves and vineyards, dotted with fortified villages. A territory that offers a wide range of places to discover, starting with the ruins of Luni, the "Splendida Civitas" established in 177 BC by the Romans, which are only a few hundred metres away from the Federici winery. The combination of a mild climate due to the sea nearby, constant ventilation and a soil rich in minerals, results in wines with a very distinctive and special character, the ones made with Vermentino grapes in particular. Moreover, the historic cru of Sarticola offers the perfect terroir for growing the best Vermentino in the region. The Federici family has a long farming tradition which they have maintained and handed down since the early 1900s. In 1985 they definitively decided to focus on growing Vermentino grapes and on the production of quality wines. Their Sarticola Cru white wine has a deep straw yellow colour with golden glints. Notes of yellow fruit (peach) and flowery scents. Soft and fragrant on the palate, with a nice freshness and a mineral finish. Their 2015 vintage has scooped the "Tre Bicchieri" award by Gambero Rosso (generally accepted as one of the most authoritative guides to Italian wines). We are confident that the newly released 2017 vintage will also find favour with wine experts and professionals. Aged for 2 months sur lie (on the lees) and then in stainless steel tanks. Best served at 12 °C.
