Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is an intense red wine that stands up to the flavourful cuisine of Abruzzo.
Made from the grape variety of the same name, it is a low-tannin wine often with an unmistakable waft of sea air. It has demonstrated incredible versatility in yielding important wines in both traditional and modern styles. The best Montepulcianos can evolve positively to age twenty and beyond with no problems whatsoever. Like Barbera, Montepulciano seems to be especially well-suited to French oak, as the skins have very little tannic material.
The Villa Medoro estate has been owned by the Della Loggia-Morricone Family since 1966 and is set in the beautiful area of Teramo Hills (Colline Teramane) overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The focus of the estate is on making high-quality wine that starts directly in the vineyard with a low grape yield per hectare, a feature that is somewhat unique in a region that often prioritises quantity over quality.
The Adrano Colline Teramane DOCG is a single vineyard Montepulciano, between dark ruby red and garnet in colour, with an intense and persistent nose of red fruit, black cherry, tobacco and cocoa. The wine is full-bodied with solid tannins, balanced with pleasing toasted notes.
Aged for 12 months in French oak barriques, followed by 6-8 months in bottle before release.
Best served at 16-18°C.
