Product Description

Veneto, extending from east of Lake Garda across to Venice and up to the Austrian border, is the major wine-producing region of Italy in terms of hectolitres produced. There are some important DOCs (Controlled Designation of Origin), the most important one being the Valpolicella DOC that offers some deliciously concentrated, gamey, chocolatey reds of considerable ageing potential. The Valpolicella blend is based on three indigenous red grape varieties (corvina, rondinella and molinara) grown in the region. Some traditional Valpolicellas, like the prestigious Amarone wines, are produced from grapes that have been air-dried (traditionally on straw mats, nowadays in special drying chambers under controlled conditions) to concentrate the remaining sugars and flavours. The result is a rich, ripe, full-bodied wine with relatively little acidity and high alcohol content which easily surpasses 15%. Edmond has picked for you this mouth-filling Amarone della Valpolicella Classico which has a very deep nose, full of dried plums, black cherries and dark fruits, floral and herbal whiffs, with hints of tobacco and vanilla. A powerful, full-bodied wine on the palate with fleshy texture, high alcohol yet well balanced with freshness and silky tannins, with a deliciously lengthy finish. Aged for at least 36 months in Slavonian and French durmast casks. Best served at 18-20 °C.
